While I pray that you never find yourself in the position we were in, if the situation should arise where you need to have in care home 24/7 for your loved one, Auntie’s Angels and Dorell Rider are simply the best you could possibly find.

Our 81 year old mother was our father’s sole caregiver. He had dementia, significant hearing and sight difficulties, and severe mobility issues. Suddenly, our mother had a stroke and was unable to care for our father – we live 6000 miles away. Within a few hours, Auntie’s Angels was recommended to us by two people, had been contacted, had gone to meet with our mother (still in the Emergency Room) to assure her that her husband would be cared for, and arrived at their home. Her above and beyond care for and about them both (and us, their grown children) over the next few months was amazing and wonderful.

She stayed in constant contact with us until we were able to fly in from the East Coast. She took on a huge job, way more than we ever anticipated, and simply got it done. Professionally, full of compassion and caring whether the job was technically hers or not, she was able to help with everything from the immediate need of getting a house cleaner in to coordinating and scheduling appointments with a variety of therapist and medical visits, even visiting with our mother at the rehab center so she could get to know the person caring for her husband and hear first hand how things were going! All while preparing favorite meals and keeping our father engaged and as active as possible. She remained 100% focused on her patient’s well being, comfort, and happiness in spite of the many unanticipated hurdles and obstacles that continued to occur. She was there 100% for us, as well, keeping us updated and informed throughout everything with such kindness.

We loved her ability to make our father smile and engage in daily activities. Most importantly, he adored her and never stopped talking about how wonderfully he was being cared for and how much he enjoyed everything about her! And we will never forget how compassionate and caring she was when our father was accepted into hospice care. She sat with our Dad day and night when the end was near, holding his hand and talking to him until the very end when we could not be there in time. When our mom was unexpectedly released from a rehab center a few weeks later, Dorell and Auntie’s Angels worked day and night to meet her needs and wants at home until we were ultimately able to find a care home best suited to her.

Dorell’s warm, kind, giving personality and her simple ‘goodness’ and generosity of spirit have given us a true gift throughout a terribly difficult, stressful time. As she often says “God IS good – all the time”.

If you have the opportunity to have Auntie Dorell and Auntie’s Angels care for your loved one, take it without hesitation.

To whom it may concern,

This letter of recommendation is regarding Dorel Rider. She cared for my husband for several months. She was always punctual, caring, and gentle with him. Her knowledge of medicine is excellent. She always knew what to do and how to do it whether it was moving him, administering medications, catheters etc.

Dorel was also good with working with the Hospice staff — it made it easy to navigate the whole process.

She was also willing to help us understand what to do when she was not at the house. When my husband ended up in the hospital, she was willing to go sit with him there at night to ensure he was getting adequate care. It enabled me to go home and sleep without the worry that all of us have when our loved one is very ill, and we cannot be there every moment to watch over them.

She also was a fierce advocate with the staff when it was necessary, something that is invaluable because she was able to talk to them in medical terms and knew what needed to be done — something that I did not.

I cannot say enough about the integrity, kindness, and qualifications of Dorel. I will always be grateful to her. She would be a treasure to anyone who is lucky enough to have her work for them. She becomes family in a big hurry as her nature is so welcoming, kind, and gracious. She is honest, smart, and dependable.

My dad said he has not eaten like that since my aunt passed. He's so happy with all the great showers and great food. Dave even got him to walk out to the mail box and back. That Dave is a wonderful fit for him! You are helping the family get much-needed emotional rest. Thank you again, Auntie!

Auntie, I would love to say you really did pick a great match for my mom. She did not want help, but one visit from Anh and she's looking forward to seeing her on Tuesdays, and I'm thinking about two days a week.
